Murtabak, a well-known local dish is a pan-fried pastry stuffed with eggs and choices of either minced beef or chicken.  <\/p>\n<p>While Murtabak is available almost anywhere in Malaysia, Murtabak Mengkasar is unique and only available in Pekan Pahang.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As part of our familiarization tour, we were introduced to Murtabak Mengkasar Hj Din, a famous restaurant by a busy roadside in Pekan.  <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It might not have a 5-star restaurant ambience but visitors can be guaranteed of a 5-star Murtabak experience. This is the real thing!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/3.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I had a quick look at the preparation of the Murtabak.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/4.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ingredients are made by hand. Despite it being seen as something casual, in reality every ingredients follow a strict quality control procedures which have been passed on from previous generations.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/5.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the cooking style follows specific procedures to ensure consistent quality of the Murtabak.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/6.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All staff receives hands-on training by Pak Din himself before being allowed to be in-charge of producing Murtabak Mengkasar.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/7.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Despite the heavy crowd our Murtabak was efficiently prepared in not more than 20 minutes after ordering. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/8.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>WE were all excited when the Murtabak was served; a few plates of chicken and beef murtabak. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/9.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Together with pickled onions.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/10.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even the famous blogger, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccasaw.com\/\">Rebecca Saw<\/a> could not wait to taste the Murtabak<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/11.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Love at first bite!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/12.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/13.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One for the album!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/14.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In between eating multiple pieces of Murtabak, I had a chance to join the others in interviewing Pak Din.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/15.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He shared many insights of the business and the many challenges that he faced in elevating his Murtabak business to where it is today. He is a good example of how small food business can grow successfully given the right combination of good food and unique marketing proposition.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/16.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ask anyone in Pekan either someone from Royalty family, politician or a commoner about Murtabak and most likely they will point you to Murtabak Mengkasar! That\u2019s good marketing sense.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v37\/azuan1880\/blogs\/2011\/mengkasar\/17.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Is it as good as Murtabak Singapore and Murtabak Diraja Kota Bharu? I would say all three are equally good in three different ways.
