MADELINE Perry snuffed out Delia Arnold’s hopes of another upset as the Malaysian No 2 crashed out in the quarter-finals of the Irish Open in Dublin on Thursday.
Irish third seed Madeline kept alive her chances of winning her home tournament with a 11-5, 11-8, 11-8 win over Delia in 33 minutes.
Delia, who stunned former world champion Vanessa Atkinson of the Netherlands in the first round, found the going tough as she hit four drops into the tin. Madeline was always in control to set up a last four meeting with New Zealand’s seventh seeded Jaclyn Hawkes, who recovered from two games down to oust second seed Laura Lengthorn-Massaro of England 4-11, 6-11, 12-10, 12-10, 11-9.
Next, Delia will attempt to qualify for the main draw of the Silver-30 Cayman Islands Open in Grand Cayman on May 5-10 where Malaysia’s World No 1 Nicol David is the top seed.
