Delia Arnold is Malaysia’s new national no.2

KUALA LUMPUR: Delia Arnold has overtaken veteran Sharon Wee as the national number two.

In the latest Women International Squash Players Association (Wispa) ranking list, which was released last week, the 23-year-old Kuala Lumpur-born player moved up by three rungs to No. 23 while Sharon dropped two rungs to 25th spot.

Delia, who turned professional in 2003, conceded that it would be difficult for her to follow in the footsteps of Nicol, who has been the world No. 1 since August, 2006.

“I have to work much harder to achieve my target as the top 20 players are mentally and physically much stronger,’’ she said.

Delia added that she would leave for London early next month for a three-month training stint under Peter Genevar.

“I progressed under the guidance of Peter last year by qualifying into the main draw of the World Open in Manchester in September,’’ said Delia, who will also compete in three tournaments in Europe during the stint.
