NICOL David returns to action at two Wispa Tour tournaments in North America — the Cayman Islands Open and Texas Open next month.
The World No 1 has featured in only one tournament this season, the Kuala Lumpur Open, and the swing through the Caribbean and Texas offers Nicol a chance for some much needed court time.
The May 12-17 Texas Open in Plano, Dallas, has been elevated to Gold-45 status, putting it on par with some of the other big tournaments on the tour.
It marks Nicol’s return to Texas for the first time in five years, having last played there in 2005 when she reached the quarter-finals, her best achievement in four appearances at the event.
Now seeded first, Nicol opens against a qualifier before a likely quarter-final match-up against Egyptian seventh seed Omneya Abdel Kawy.
Awaiting the Malaysian in the last four could be either third seed Rachael Grinham of Australia or fifth seed Jenny Duncalf of England.
Home favourite Natalie Grainger, seeded second, has been drawn into the bottom half of the draw with fourth seed Natalie Grinham of the Netherlands, England’s sixth seed Alison Waters and Ireland’s No 8 seed Madeline Perry.
Previous winners of the Texas Open include Natalie Grainger and former world champions Rachael, Vanessa Atkinson and Carol Owens.
A week before flying to Plano, Nicol will make her debut in the Caribbean at the Cayman Islands Open on May 5-10 in Grand Cayman.
All of the world’s top-five players are entered for the Silver-30 tournament with the draw to be conducted today.
Cayman Islands could be the perfect platform for Nicol to avenge her KL Open final defeat by Natalie Grainger last month, with the two players seeded to meet in the final.
National players Delia Arnold and Sharon Wee are entered in the qualifying rounds of both tournaments.
