“Subang to Malacca by flight? You got to be kidding me! ” was the exact reaction of my friends when I told them that I plan to try out this new route from Firefly Airlines.

This new route was introduced since 21st November 2011 as part of the collaboration between Firefly and Melaka Air Sdn Bhd, a Malacca state-government entity. In a nutshell, Melaka Air sees the opportunity of Melaka-Medan-Melaka route and since they chose to collaborate with Firefly, the ATR need to travel between Subang to Malacca v.v to serve the Medan route completing the route as SZB-Malacca-Medan-Malacca-SZB.

As an aviation fan, it was music to my ears when they announced that they will be selling the seats from Subang to Malaka and back. I see it as an opportunity to fly a route that is quite rare due to the close distance between the 2 airports and a good highway infra. I posted the question on Facebook and here are some responses that I received.

This route is being served twice a week, Monday and Friday. On 12th Dec 2011, a public holiday for Selangor, I walked into Subang SkyPark for my Subang-Malacca-Subang daytrip adventure. A quick glance on the flight information screen, I noticed that there was no indication of a Malacca flight, I got a bit nervous thinking that the flight might got cancelled on a last-minute notice. With a bit of doubt, I walked to the check-in counter.

I was greeted by a friendly check-in officer. The moment I said “Malacca”, the check in agent just smiled and said “You must be En Azuan”. I was quite surprised only to find out that the flight to Malacca has only 2 passengers and the other passenger has checked in.

Check-In Agent: There are only 2 passengers for the flight, you are very lucky!
Me: Wow, this is a pleasant surprise, it would be even cooler if I’m the only one though.
Check-In Agent: Well I have chcekd in for you both ways and good news is that for Malacca-Subang, you will be the only passenger!
Me: Double wow (“senyum sampai ke telinga” haha )

My ‘lucky day’ boarding passes.

9M-FYJ being assigned for the route today.

Passengers boarding for flight to Alor Setar at the same time as our departure time. It was funny to have a boarding announcement made for our flight with 2 passengers. Even before the announcement can be finished we were already on our way walking to the plane.

Me and the other passenger were greeted with “Hello gentlemen, please choose any of the seats”. Nice!

2 pilots, 2 flight attendants and 2 passengers. Awesome feeling. I chose to be at 18C, and chit chat with the friendly crew throughout the flight.

We left ahead of the Alor Setar bound flight.

Clear skies, a great day to fly.

The crew were at their stations for take-off and landing despite the almost empty cabin. Safety is a serious business! Well done Firefly.

We were cleared to fly above Putrajaya, this flight turns out to be quite a scenic flight. (sorry for the zoom-crop photo).

FSS Roshini and FSS Vanessa kept offering hot drinks, juices, muffins and peanuts but I have to politely decline as I was saving it for Malacca food

After 25 minutes, we were all set to land in Malacca.

Spotted this submarine museum, one of many tourist attractions in Malacca.

Final Approach

Welcome to Malacca Airport! See you FYJ in 4 hours.

The “VIP”

I had a fun time touring Malacca in 4 hours (will share it in my next blog post) before returning to the airport for my flight home.

It’s cool to have 2 check-in counters for me. They greeted me with “Welcome back En Azuan, your private ATR’ will be ready shortly.”

Making full use of the timer shutter on my camera. I was really alone after clearing security.

Time to fly

FYJ after serving the Medan sector.

I went inside the cabin, greeted the two stewardess and they cutely said “Ready to go?”. I just nodded and the door was closed.

We left Malacca airport earlier than our scheduled time by a few minutes. I took some of this photos. After more than 100 flights with Firefly this is the first time that I got to snap photos freely inside the cabin during flight. Haha

I decided to put my camera away and just hang out with the lovely cabin crew throughout the flight.

The plane arrived in Subang ahead of schedule and after personally thanked the pilots and the cabin crew, I left with lots of good memories of being THE ONLY PERSON IN A 72-SEATER ATR! A flight to remember

Head on to http://fireflyz.com.my to book your flight to Melaka. There is no way to guarantee that you will get an empty cabin but it’s definitely a cooler way to travel to Melaka. I really hope the route will sustain and looking at the almost full Melaka-Medan-Melaka route on that day, I’m quite confident that the arrangement will last for quite some time.

In the past I have wrote a couple of blog posts on my experience flying with Firefly Airlines and these posts have been one of the most frequently read posts on AzuanZahdi.com. Due to request from some of my blog readers, I’ve decided to write an updated review and this time I’ll be trying out the newly reinstated route of Subang-Kuantan.

Although the flight was part of a sponsored media/partners familiarization trip, my review will remain strictly based on my personal views.

Back in 2009, Firefly was doing well with this route but has to stop the service due to aircraft re-deployment to other more profitable routes. Now that Firefly has received additional ATR72-500 aircrafts, the Subang-Kuantan route is back. The airline is so positive about the route that they are starting with twice daily services effective 30th October 2011.

I was booked on FY2120 on Friday 11.11.11. Flying has always been the best excuse to push myself to wake up very early in the morning and with lots of excitement, I was at the airport as early as 6:20am.

Check in was smooth and I managed to get my boarding pass and my luggage tagged in less than 4 minutes. It was a nice touch by the check-in staff to say “Have a nice flight, En Azuan” when she passed me my boarding pass. Small things that make a difference.

It’s also interesting to note that Firefly has introduced Web Check-in where passengers can check-in from home/office and just drop their bags at the dedicated counter. They have also introduced a more efficient queuing system with common check-ins instead of dedicated counters by destinations.

Despite the heavy morning rain, flights were departing as per scheduled and At 7:28am, the boarding process for our 7:40am flight begins.

Umbrellas were provided to all passengers for our short walk to the plane.

Our ride for the day 9M-FYH.

I was greeted by the leading stewardess, Miss Amira at the aircraft door and was later ushered by a more junior crew to my seat in 7F.

As I was one of the last passengers to board the flight, I noticed that the load was quite light with about 50% passenger-on-board.

It’s funny that despite a few empty rows at the front part of the plane, I was assigned a seat next to another passenger. One way to improve is for Firefly to assign the seats to maximise comfort based on flight load allowing as much space as possible between passengers.

Take off was 2 minutes ahead of schedule. Heavy rain and thick clouds = bumpy take-off.

In-flight service started a bit late due to weather and with the seat belt sign switched on during most of the flight duration, I decided to cancel my earlier plan to chat and take photos of the cabin crew in action as part of this review.

Muffins / Peanuts and mango / guavajuice were served to all passengers immediately after the seat belt sign was off.

Malaysian Hospitality at its best! I took this photo below while Flight Stewardess Amira was serving the juice.

She was smiling and interacting with some of the passengers and you can actually tell a difference that she’s doing it sincerely rather than following an SOP written on the manual. Thumbs up for that!

There was no in-flight briefing given by the Captain or Co-pilot perhaps due to the weather keeping them busy but I personally believe that during bad weather, words from the flight deck are always good to hear.

While most of the passengers took a short nap, I flipped through the reading materials provided in the seat pocket. We can now say good-bye to Kunang-Kunang Magazine. At least Going Places has been used as a replacement which makes sense if you look at the angle of cost savings for the company and MAS Group.

We landed in Kuantan 2 minutes earlier than our scheduled time.

Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport. A great small airport.

Thank You 9M-FYH.

My bag arrived 2 minutes after I entered the arrival hall.

The high quality service of Firefly Airlines has been quite consistent that despite after flying so many times with different planes and crew members I can enjoy the same ‘smooth and relaxing’ experience. Its value for money positioning together with this experience reaffirms my choice of Firefly as my favourite airline.

Pros:
a)	Consistent in-flight service
b)	Great ‘human-touch’ at Check-In Counter and in-flight

Cons:
a)	Seat allocation was random; flights were half empty but strangers being assigned to sit with each other
b)	No in-flight briefing by the pilots

At the end of February 2011, thanks to Firefly Airlines cheap tickets for their KLIA-Kuching route, my wife and I were able to have another round of ‘jalan-jalan’ weekend getaway. If last year we covered JB, Alor Star, Kota Bharu, Penang and Langkawi during weekends this year our targets are mainly cities in Sabah and Sarawak. After the fun time we had on our Sabah trip in January, it’s time to explore Kuching, the cat city!

I’ll be blogging in few blog posts which I shall start with the flight to Kuching itself followed by interesting places and of course food in Kuching!

FY602 is the earliest flight of Firefly’s daily service to Kuching from KLIA. I always love taking the first flight to enjoy extra time at the destination without spending extra days on accommodation.

Happy face despite having to wake up as early as 4:30am to get to the airport by 6am!

Another plus point of being on a first flight, higher chance of it being on-time!

On the last Firefly flights that we took to KK, we had front row seats on both ways enjoying the extra leg-room. This time we took Row 33, the last row of the Boring 737-800.

Not the best choice though as the seats cannot be reclined and it’s too near to the toilet! Good thing is that, we got the whole 6 seats to ourselves.

View from my seat as passenger board the plane.

After a great 3 days 2 nights (wish it was longer!) in Kota Kinabalu, it was time to say good-bye to the land of seafood, island and nature! Thanks to Firefly Airlines RM9 all-inclusive flight tickets I was able to experience the tourism side of Kota Kinabalu with my wife and family at an affordable price. In this final post of my Kota Kinabalu holiday series, I’ll share my experience flying back to KL with Firefly on their 3rd day of operations in Kota Kinabalu.

If you’ve missed my other posts on Kota Kinabalu, click on the links below:

Arriving 2.5 hours before our scheduled flight time, the check-in counters were still closed. Thankfully Terminal 1 of Kota Kinabalu Airport is a modern facility with a very calm and friendly ambience, something that we appreciated after a long day of touring.

About 90-minutes before the flight, the queue started at Firefly’s dedicated check-in counters in island C.

Two of us had taken the premium package which includes 20kg of checked-baggage allowance. It was a right choice as in addition to our individual luggage we had 2 boxes of dried and frozen seafood!

The frozen lobster and prawns purchased at the airport seafood store.

Check-in was rather slow and as I was about to blame it on the staff, I actually find out it was due to the passengers being not familiar with the baggage allowance policies. I guess that’s normal for a new airline operating out of a new destination.

Eventually it was our turn.

We were done within 5 minutes. All the seat allocations were as per the online booking and no excess luggage. Perfect!

FY527 assigned to gate A3

Comfy waiting area.

My boarding pass. Seat 1A!

The Boeing 737-800, on its third day of commercial operation for Firefly, arrived on-time from KL.

Firefly logo on a jet plane a pleasant sight.

The customary queuing!

The flight left on-time and after a rather bumpy climb, it was smooth sailing all the way to KL.

Meals were served 20-minutes after take-off. I had Nasi Briyani. So-so this time or maybe I was spoilt by the good seafood I had for 3 straight days in KK.

This meal cart still carries XL Airline logo, the previous operator of the Boeing 737-800.

Being on the front row has its advantages and disadvantages. Ample leg-room and the seat pocket are the plus points.

..but then it’s close to the toilet!

Passengers tend to just queue outside the toilet making the passengers on the front row rather uncomfortable. Can’t you just look at the signs whether the toilets are occupied or not?

Another annoying thins is that when the cabin lights were dimmed off, the cabin crew and passengers who walk between the seats to the galley will slide the curtain and it feels like a spotlight pointing straight to our faces!

img src=”http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/azuan1880/blogs/2011/kktokul/17.jpg” alt=”" />

We arrived in KLIA 3 minutes after the scheduled time. Safely parked next to the big brother.

Another advantage being up-front is the ability to be the first to leave the plane.

My frozen lobsters were the first item on the conveyor belt.

All thanks to the priority tag!

Firefly Airlines, despite being a community and low-cost airline, has the elements of a full service carrier. Both of the flights that i took to and from KK were 80% full and inflight F&B and merchandise sales were quite good. I look forward to more flights with Firefly in the future!

With this post, it is the end of my Kota Kinabalu series. Coming up next is my another travel and adventure series covering Kuching!

My alarm clock went off at 04:00am on 15th January 2011, a couple of hours earlier than my normal wake-up time. While most people would still be in bed enjoying their weekend sleep, I was up and ready for a long and memorable day. To be honest, I was too excited that I kept getting up and looking at my watch so that I did not sleep through the alarm clock.

The time has finally come! After months of planning and anticipating, the day has come for another ‘tick’ in my aviation resolution which is to be part of an inaugural flight. 15th January 2011 was a special day for Firefly Airline, Malaysia’s community airlines for many reasons:

a) First Firefly commercial flight to be operated from KLIA
b) First Firefly commercial flight to be operated by their new Boeing 737-800
c) First Firefly flight to showcase their new uniform for crew operating on board Firefly jets
d) First Firefly flight to have male flight attendants!

With so many ‘firsts’ in the list, it is an interesting milestone for Firefly Airlines just after few years of operating. Being a fan of the airline since the era of Fokker-50, I wouldn’t miss a chance to be part of this memorable milestone. Without any hesitation and under the cover of ‘bringing my family for holiday in KK’, I managed to secure the first few seats on the first flight to Kota Kinabalu. Including Seat 01A for myself!

A few days before the flight, I was told that the OFFICIAL inaugural flights were scheduled to be on 15th Jan for Kuching and Kota Kinabalu on 24th Jan. I was a bit disappointed that I got the right date but wrong destination. Nevertheless arrangements have been made in KK for my holiday and I was ready to be part of the first flight, minus all the welcoming events, water cannon, medias and VIPs as what I enjoyed last time in Singapore.

15th Jan 2011

After a routine 40-minutes drive from Shah Alam, my family and I were already at KLIA. At 5:45a.m. there were already signs of activities happenings with medias, VIPs and Firefly crew getting busy for the official inaugural flight to KCH. After shaking hands with some familiar faces from Firefly, I made my way to Check In counter A4 for check-in.

A friendly ground staff (sorry I forgot to take your name!) greeted us with small talks while processing our boarding passes and luggage tags. A pleasant personality despite having to be at work very early in the morning and the pressure of first day jitters.

Luggage tags were placed on each checked-in bag and we were informed that our bags will have priority handling as I took the premium package.

Being the first day of operations in KLIA, passengers were welcomed with free refreshments.

After clearing security and a short walk, we passed trough Gate B2 assigned for the Kuching flight with all the VIPs and media band wagon. Photographers and reporters were busy at work as I continued my walk to Gate B4. At one point, I was glad to be on the Kota Kinabalu flight instead of Kuching with less competition for better angles for photos.

Things were much calmer at Gate B4 for Kota Kinabalu. Something that many appreciate at 6:30am!

It was a bit too calm that we have passed the scheduled departure time and there were no signs of boarding procedures to be carried out anytime soon. A re-timed first flight?

I hate it when my instinct about the flight being retimed became a reality! Our flight that was supposed to depart at 6:55am as the FIRST Firefly commercial flight from KLIA was re-timed to 7:25am due to airspace issues as explained by the Captain. Due to this, the flight to KCH departed 10 minutes ahead of us and became the first!

Boarding was done by rows with priority given to the elderly and those traveling with kids. By the way many still don’t get it and jumped queue the moment the doors were opened.

FY502 was operated on the first day by 9M-FFA, a 4.7 years old Boeing 737-8Q8(WL) that previously worn the colors of Excel, XL and MAS before entering service with Firefly.

Greeting me at the door is a familiar face Glad to know that some of the crew from ATR operations are now operating from KLIA. A team of three Captains were at the flight deck and the Captain (one of them) personally apologize over the PA System over the delay in pushback.

The Firefly crew waving as the doors being closed and cross-checked for departure.

We eventually pushed back at 7:40am. When was the last time you have this many people sending off a plane?

Cabin crew conducted the safety briefing and within minutes the plane took off from RWY32R.

In-flight service started the moment the seat belt signs were switched off. Boarding pass was used as reference for meals that was pre-ordered through standard and premium packages. Note my seat number!

Being on the first row allows ample legroom (the best being seat 2D, 2E, 2F).

Quite a good range of food is available on-board where passengers can either pre-book or buy on-the-spot. KLAS

Tray table being prepared. I like how a piece of paper is used as table-cloth. Simple things that make a difference.

Set Meal with a 350ml of Mineral Water

Nasi Lemak. A good choice! Yummy and nicely prepared.

Chicken Briyani Bukhara is a so-so with the rice being a bit dry and overcooked.

33 Rows of seats. All leather.

FireMen! Male cabin crew is something new for Firefly! Outfit nicely designed by Jendela KL.

Cabin crew was quite occupied throughout the flight and made 2 rounds of service with the second one selling merchandise. I was tempted to buy something but the 737-800 plane model is not yet available.

Approaching Kota Kinabalu.

Safely landed on a sunny day!

No water cannon as the flight was not the ‘official’ inaugural flight to Kota Kinabalu. Nevertheless my fellow aviation enthusiasts Mr. Meor and Mr. Samuel were at the passenger bridge waiting to take photos.

Despite having the first row seat, I was the last to leave the aircraft. No first flight is complete with a special crew group photo. I just love the batik motif scarves/collar on the ladies new uniform. The silky ‘ropol-ropol’ (whatever you call that thing!) touch also add flavours to the uniform.

One last photo before I left the plane. Thank you.

With 3 flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, Firefly is ready to seriously compete on this hot route with offerings that in my opinion is as good as premium airlines and the flexibility of ‘you get what you pay for’. Just like any other airlines, promo fares can be super cheap. I love the fact that Firefly flies from Main Terminal Building that allow easier access to ERL and other connecting airlines.

“Firefly won’t last long”, “it will go burst in 1 year”, “there can only be one low-cost carrier”. These were some of the strong comments made by a few of my fellow aviation friends when Firefly started its operation from Penang back in 2007. Only three short years later, Firefly has proven them wrong and emerged as a successful business model that has achieved many important milestones in the aviation industry.

I still remember my first Firefly flight from Subang (the days before SkyPark!) to Johor Bharu on a classic Fokker-50 in FY colors!

Followed by hundreds of flights on the newer ATR 72-500. I’ve frequently flown on Firefly to AOR, PEN, LGK, KBR, TGG, SIN, JHB and target to cover all destinations by 2011

Today, my favourite airline achieves yet another major milestone with the launch of flights from KLIA Main Terminal Building to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

A few reasons to be excited about this new achievement.

a) Fly from KLIA!
Firefly jet operations will fly from KLIA! Not to worry for Subang SkyPark fans, the existing ATR72-500 operations will remain in Subang and more flights and ATR72-500 aircrafts will be operating from Subang. Oh did I mention that Firefly will fly from the world-class award-winning Main Terminal Building of KLIA? I am also excited that I will have Firefly friends to have lunch with in KLIA! Hahaha!

b) Boeing 737-800 instead of Boeing 737-400
I have to admit that all this while I thought Firefly will utilize MAS Boeing 737-400. I was wrong. It was a pleasant surprise this morning when I saw the illustration of Firefly’s Boeing 737-800 on their website with the beautiful and sexy winglets. It makes sense! Lower operating cost per pax , comfortable and modern plus environmental friendly fleet are the criteria that matters for FY’s business model in my opinion.

c) New Destinations: BKI (Kota Kinabalu) and KCH (Kuching)!
It is a perfect 10 on the awesomeness meter to have BKI and KCH as the initial destination for Firefly Boeing 737-800. Great destinations for business and leisure travelers and the fact that Firefly will have 28 flights a week for Kuching and 21 flights a week to Kota Kinabalu indicates high demand for these routes.

And what better way to celebrate this new milestone other than a great dirt cheap flight tickets. A total of 50,000 seats at (RM0.01!!!!) or RM9.00 all-in fare one-way, which is only available online at fireflyz.com.my and through Mobile Booking m.fireflyz.com.my. The booking period is from the 8th November to 14th November with the travel period from the 15th of January to 31st of May 2011.

Being a loyal fan on Firefly, it is not possible to skip this great offer! Despite not being invited to the press-conference/announcement (sad! :’( ), I was patiently waiting in-front of my PC to book the flights.

The moment the offer was made online, I immediately booked the first available flight to BKI. First flight out and on seat 01A. That’s what I call loyalty Maybe not being invited to the press-con was a blessing in disguise after all.

Believe it or not RM0.01 for the fares! And if no standard or premium packages added, all-in fare would be RM9!

It was so cheap that I decided to throw in the Premium Package! The good thing about Firefly is that even on a Standard Package (RM30 per pax per sector), you’ll get 20KG of luggage, food and seat selection! Despite it being so cheap, a passenger can also opt for totally no-frill travel and just pay for the flight minus luggage, food and seat selection. Suits well for backpackers with only carry-on bags and day-trippers.

I was super excited to get Seat 01A on the first flight that I actually misspelled my mom’s name (I’m traveling with my family). A quick phone call to Firefly Call Centre successfully fixed the problem. Thanks to Miss Ina for being so friendly and she was quite surprised that someone booked the Kota Kinabalu flights merely minutes after it was being put online. LOL

The temptation to book tickets was so strong that only 30 minutes after buying the BKI flights, I decided to buy tickets to Kuching as well. Same super cheap price!

I take the cheap tickets as an early birthday gift for myself It’s only right to thank Firefly and its parent co MAS.

Congratulations Firefly! Blue Skies ahead…..

I know, I know! This is a blog post that is long overdue! It has been 2 months since Slash performed a superb show at Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach and it is not really a ‘news’ material anymore. Nevertheless, it’s better late than never, so here’s a very short coverage of the event from the perspectives of my four eyes.

No cameras were allowed (stated on the rules and regulations at least), so I was camera-less throughout the evening. All the great photos of the concert on this blog post were taken from Firefly’s official photographer, Mr. James.

Thanks to Firefly, I was the first few to get into the Surf Beach. An hour before the opening acts started to perform, a group of lucky winners, invited guests including myself were given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Slash backstage.

Surprisingly Slash was super friendly. Over the 30-seconds backstage experience, he offered a friendly handshake, took a couple of photos and a quick hello before we were ushered away to make way for the next group.

The concert was equally an exciting experience. Thanks to Bryan See for the free tickets to the PS1 section as I left my PS2 ticket thinking that a backstage pass would give me all-access. Silly me.

Opening act by The Blisters, winner of Bintang Rock HOT FM.

And Amy Search and Edry Hashim.

I was initially skeptical about Myles Kennedy’s live performance capabilities but I was proven wrong. He was awesome from start to the end, being at the same awesomeness level as Slash!

Slash wowing the crowd

The Man.

The newer songs were music to my ears but classics GnR songs has a special place in my heart. Enjoy my favorite song of that night beautifully captured by this video from Mr. Calvin~!

The whole Slash excitement does not end that night. Fast forward by a few weeks, I received this special envelope at my doorsteps.

A Pleasant surprise! Slash’s new album….

….personally signed by the man himself!

My current driving playlist

Thank you Firefly (everyone!) for the meet-and-greet backstage pass, the ticket and of course the CD! Too bad there’s no photos of Slash on board Firefly’s ATR or with the stewardesses. That would be super cool Till the next concert….

In the spirit of Hari Raya, Firefly had its annual Hari Raya Open House for members of the media. Being a blogger that occasionally writes on Firefly, I was again invited to join the celebration held at Rebung Restaurant in Bangsar. For one night, it was cool to attend a Firefly function without having the need to write a review on it. Just an evening of fun times with good food and cool bunch of Firefly-ians.

Thanks to the crazy KL traffic I was fashionably late by an hour. Still a warm welcome by familiar faces of Firefly MarCom boys and girls elegantly dressed in traditional Malay costume. It was funny that I suddenly heard someone saying “Oit, you survived Sabak Bernam ke?” It was none other than James, who was referring to My Selangor Story experience

Datuk Eddy Leong welcoming the guests. I was anticipating Datuk Eddy’s speech for any new announcement in terms of new route/destinations and new ‘modus-operandi’ of Firefly out of KUL but nothing was mentioned. Not yet

Food!

Can I have this gigantic ATR model for my upcoming birthday? LOL

Or these as birthday presents?

Lucky draw session.

Bro Shahrin who I got to know through our trip covering the inaugural Firefly flight to Singapore last year. He was lucky enough to win an ATR72 model despite wanting the Batam tickets badly.

My personal card got picked as one of the last lucky cards.

Thank you Datuk.

SZB-SIN-SZB excluding tax. Seen ehre with another free jersey. This time my wife’s size so we got a matching pair of this orange jersey Not too bad

For the album. Thanks James for these great photos.

With the friendly Natalya.

Thank you Firefly for not only the invitation but also many great opportunities for me to write about throughout the year 2009 and 2010. From the 300 average visitors that I have on my blog every day, around 100 visitors are usually someone that came through search engines looking for terms like “Firefly Airlines review”, “firefly airlines deals”, “firefly stewardess” and “Firefly Airlines opinions”. I hope that I can continue writing reviews on the airlines and help to increase the awareness of the brand at the same time enjoy continuous flow of traffic on my blog.

One last ‘wrong camera settings’ effect by James.

Terima kasih and Selamat Hari Raya.

Live bands and good music have always been a great way to spend a weekend. Last Saturday I had the chance to attend “Bintang Rock Hot FM”, an audition session for local bands held in conjunction with Firefly’s Slash Live in KL 2010. On top of being able to listen to good music, it was also a target practice for me to improve my photography skills.

Love the Firefly/Slash top Hat!

It may seem like another ordinary talent search or local gig session but the beauty of Bintang Rock Hot FM is that the winning band will get a chance to perform in front of the fans of legendary rock stars SLASH and AMY SEARCH. That’s a huge stage that will definitely put a spotlight on the winning band and could very much be a stepping stone for their music path!

The event was held in the Subang SkyPark! A good additional flavor to an already lively lifestyle city airport.

More than 26 bands participated in the search. All kinds of songs and styles can be heard and seen to attract the attention of the judges.

Judges: Hilary Ang and Edrie Hashim

DJ Leya of Hot FM entertained the crowd in between bands with her usual jovial style.

Rock is 50% skills + 50% style.

110% style?

Shoe-problem? No-problem? Rock on….

Rock on brother!

Brutal-look rocker!

Not-so-brutal la after all…

The crowd. It was interesting to see even passengers traveling on that day enjoyed the event.

Roses among the thorns.

The “Rock-Stars”. Seriously talented and stylo! I can imagine that they either jam very often or play a lot of Guitar Hero!

My personal favourite would be this band:

The Firefly gang busy at their booth during the event.

One last photo before i left. Credits to James for the photo.

Which band will win? I have no idea. Surely it would be a close decision! Can’t wait to watch the band live in action on the 5th August!
