Going to the beach, water parks and water sports with family and friends are moments to treasure. Unfortunately in many cases it’s impossible to capture these moments on camera due to the fear of the camera being spoilt by intrusion of water into the complicated digital camera system. Many have even tried and regretted doing so and it’s simply a risk not worth taking.
I was looking for a solution to allow me to bring my camera to watery places. While there are expensive camera casings and waterproof cameras available in the market, I was looking for a more cost-efficient solution as I do not plan to use it for snorkeling or diving, just photography at surface of water. It was during the search that I stumbled upon Hyper-Gear!

HyperGear offers a range of products that are mainly series of flexible camera pouches which allows you to shoot high quality, digital pictures while participating in water sports or other harsh environments. Digital Camera pouches are transparent that allows full functional use while the camera is safely encased in the protective package.
I finally bought one of the Multi-Purpose Camera Waterproof Pouch at their booth during the Monsoon Cup 2009.
I was not ready to risk my DSLr therefore I decided to try the bag out with an old compact digital cam.

My 1st experiment was at Langkawi’s famous seven wells waterfall. Let’s see how this Hyper Gear pouch works.

Make sure to double check and triple check the sealing of the pouch.

The neck lanyard is a very useful feature of the pouch. The length is fully adjustable to suit your height.

It’s stylish too so you don’t look too geeky on the beach or any public area.

It was a bit awkward the first few times as I find it difficult to play around with my camera setting dials but after a few try, I got used to it and it became easier. Note that the pouch was at the surface most of time with few seconds of being underwater.
Some of the shots taken. It’s a rather old low res camera but the photos turned out to be as good as without the pouch. You will not see the plastic in your photos!

See the spots on the photos below? That’s the most that can happen if water splashes hit your pouch. At least your camera is safe and you can simply wipe the water spots and continue photographing.

It’s a reasonably cheap and good solution for those not wanting to spend much for a real underwater housing and waterproof camera. Head on to their website here for information on purchasing the product.
oit! why no underwater photos wan?? isn’t that the whole point of a waterproof pouch?
ohh yeah la…hehehehe actually it did get underwater but only for a shortwhile… the water at the waterfall is not that clear anyway
