Earth Hour @ Home – Cooking & Eating!

The Earth Hour 2009 was celebrated throughout the world last night with Malaysia officially participated for the first time. Last year when very little Malaysian knew about Earth Hour, I showed my total support and went on registering, participating and letting everyone know about it. Click here to see my post from Earth Hour last year.

This year, I think earth hour in Malaysia is a bit overrated (marketing and PR stunt for many). Rather than being at one of planned gathering, I decided to stay at home and spent my weekend withy loved ones. And what better way to spend a weekend other than tying out yet another recipe from Asian Food Channel (AFC).

A few weeks back when I blogged about Jiji trying out an AFC recipe, the nice people at AFC browsed through the blog entry and were kind enough to send out a couple of cool aprons as complimentary gifts. Not that we need any gifts to continue watching AFC, nevertheless we love the aprons and have been using it every time the chef is in action! :)

For today’s recipes, Chef Jiji being assisted by two assistants, Asst Chef Mar and Asst Chef Erni….

And of course the helpless and hopeless Chef Azuan

I can’t neither wear the apron right nor holding the knife the right way, at one point I told myself that the only chef I can be is probably the Naked Chef ..hehe

Recipes for the day.

a) Seafood Chowder for starter
b) Carbonara for main dish
c) Apple Pie for dessert

I always believe that the best recipe is when you adapt the recipes you have to local taste and preferences. The recipes are meant to be improvised with a touch of creativity and localization. Hence the end results are always different from what we saw on TV but the satisfaction is the same :)

Let the cooking fun begins…

In line with earth hour, we decided not to print the recipe, I browsed through AFC’s useful website and downloaded the recipes to my mobile. This is what ‘modern cooking’ all about :P

The preparation of the ingredients

Cleanliness in food preparation. All need to be washed. Even this not-so-fresh supermarket salmon

Delicious looking Salmon nevertheless

Apples for Apple Pie

Cinnamon powder being prepared using the traditional ‘lesung’, a must-have in all Malays houses. This ‘lesung’ is something you won’t find on western cooking shows!

The pasta being prepared…

And it’ lovely cream sauce…

The salmon ready to go into the chowder along with the rest of seafood stuff…

And not to forget, garden salad

Apple pie ready to go into the oven…

And 30-minutes later, the ‘Earth Hour’ dinner was ready. All served under the ‘tudung saji’, another traditional malay item you’ll see in each of Malay’s house.

The Results….yummy…

My favourite chowder…

It was then “Earth Hour”, and we dimmed off our lights and have a great time chatting, eating for the 1-hour :)

Thank you God for Mother Nature.

  6. I have been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be much more useful than ever before.
