One of the fun things of married life is the ‘unwritten practice’ of going back to the wife’s hometown/family once in a while (for me once a month at least). The fact that Jiji’s family is in JB City makes it even fun for me as I also frequent my JB office at least twice a month which eventually build my liking towards JB especially for it’s food and friendly people.
On March 7th to 9th, thanks to Air Asia and Firefly’s cheap tickets, we spent our long-weekend in Jiji’s family house in JB.
We were at LCCT as early as 630am to catch our 7:55am KUL-JHB flight. One thing that I love doing in LCCT is “People Watching”. I salute Air Asia for being the enabler that makes flying affordable for many. And that makes people watching even more fun.

LCCT is a ‘cheap-concept’ airport, but that does not justify bad grammar does it?

The Airbus A320 ready for boarding…

A very short and bumpy flight. Air Asia has started assigned seating, so gone are those days when I can simply sit wherever I want.

Despite the assigned seating, people still rush to queue at the gate the second the ground staff mentioned “Good morning, Ladies and G…” Malaysian Kiasu?
Jiji’s parents picked us up at the airport and the ‘food fest’ starts. Without wasting any time, we stopped by at Pantai Lido to get some fresh fish for lunch. Dirt cheap stuff man!
Ikan Susu fresh from the sea.

But it was a pleasant surprise to see this, yea baby, FRESH OYSTERS!

And many other types of ‘siput’. From Lala, to Kupang to Sepetang and others. It’s all fresh and cheap.

Guess how much these 10 pcs oysters cost me?

RM10. Yes. RM10.
A few hours later, thanks to my mother in law’s cooking skills, it was transformed into these delicious seafood dishes for lunch.

YUMMY!
Afternoon nap was so great after that big meal. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
A few hours later, Jiji and I went out for a dinner date at her favourite kopitiam. Not one of those fancy ‘fake overpriced franchise kopitiam’ but real stuff that has been around for generations.
IT Roo Café…

That sells the best “Chicken Chop in Town”

A small but comfortable joint

Food choice is good but spotlight is of course, on the chicken chop.

I ordered Chicken Chop in Mushroom Sauce With Two Eggs.

SUPERB TASTE! Goes well with this Cap Diamon Keris Chili Sauce.

What a great end to Day 1.
Day 2, Jiji and I decided to make a day trip to Singapore. Just to do some window shopping. Of course, where else besides Orchard Road.

Window shopping…..Right!

This is the idea of ‘backpacking’ for a married man version of Azuan. Hehehe

Well to be fair, some of the stuff are mine
I just can’t resist some of the shirts.
Orchard trip is never complete without a visit to one of these ice-cream peddlars.

Where I walloped 2 ice-cream wafers, Durian and Mango Flavor!

After few hours in Orchard Road, we made our way to Arab street for very late lunch. 4pm lunch to be exact.

I love Arab street. The Kampung Glam and Sultan Mosque have a unique appeal in the middle of the modernization faces of Singapore.

Arab Street is also famous for “Singapore Zam Zam” and “Victory” Indian Muslim Restauraunts. I’m a big fan of Zam Zam Mutton Briyani and Murtabak. Awesome stuff…..

There are plenty more interesting photos that I will upload to my Facebook.
It’s a good ‘balik kampong ++’ trip this time. It’s only my second time balik kampong so I look forward for many more fun makan trips in the future! With the amount of food that i ate over 2 days, i think i should have my own food show on TV channel like Asian Food Channel (AFC)! haha
