Sufiah Yusof: From Prostitution to Social Work, thanks to….?

This morning, a colleague of mine shared something she read on the news. On The Star there’s this small article which covered the news about Sufiah Yusof, a Malaysian Math Genius, Oxford Graduate who ended up as a call-girl. The news below, originally taken from Harian Metro tabloid reports that Sufiah has left the glamorous prostitute industry and now doing *drumroll* Social Work!

I want this to be true. It’s good for everyone but it’s a bit too difficult for me to accept the news 100%. The reasons are:

- Being a call girl has its own appeal! Glamorous life, easy money, high-class networking, luxurious lifestyle…..She used to earn RM728 for a session. Imagine if she works hard 5 days a week, that translates here monthly income to RM14,560! From that to Social Work…. Might be a bit difficult to adjust within such a short span of time..

- This e-mail from her stating that she’s no longer involve in the industry maybe just a strategy to go underground, keep quiet and let the controversy to be over and done with. After all it’s a discreet industry and her regular clients will know how to get to her even when the whole world thinks she’s doing Social Work!

I really hope the news is true and she’s no longer involve in the negative industry, if she’s really doing social work I congratulate her and the NGO and I think we have finally found a solution to all prostitutes problem in Malaysian. The solution being =

Ironically, banana! (PISANG is the acronym for Professional Islamic Support and Nurture Group. and in Malay Pisang is BANANA)… Yes, it’s really true, give a prostitute a ‘banana’ and she’ll quit having sex with guys for money. ….hehehehe (you’ll only get this joke if you’re adult enough! ).

Seriously, my personal opinion, Professional Islamic Support and Nurture Group should have PISNG as acronym. Anyhow i congratulate them for their success in bringing Sufiah to the right path…Alhamdulillah.
