This is part 2 of my Terengganu Day Trip last week. Click here to read the Part 1 that covers my shopping fun in Pasar Payang.
After tiring 6 hours of straight forward no-nonsense shopping in Pasar Payang, we ended up with 4 bags of songket, batiks, keropok lekor and tembaga stuff. Tired from the adrenaline rush of shopping, we started to hunt around for a place to rest. A mosque would be a typical place for day-trippers muslims to retreat for a short rest. However with the heavy bags and none of smells that good, we opted out for a hotel.
Finding a hotel that offers day rate and nearby to Pasar Payang is not that difficult. We asked around and the traders recommended Seri Malaysia Hotel and Sea View Hotel. Both are cheap hotels with private bathroom and shower. After checking out the distance on my Google Earth Mobile, and few phone calls, we were booked at this cool hotel.

Cheap, no-frill, safe. Comfortable

After a quick nap, we went out to discover another great side of Terengganu, GOOD FOOD! Since it’s the fasting month and most restaurants are close, the Ramadhan Bazaar gives me the perfect opportunity to experience Terengganu delicious and affordable cuisine all in one place.
I let the photos do the talking:
Ayam Golek a.k.a Ayam Pusing here in Terengganu
Seafood bakar

Who says western food cannot blend it with our food?

Local delicacies

Famous Akok

The delicious banana sweet dessert (ok I forgot the name!)

Nice colors…delicious too

Sata – another famous food on this side of the country

All the food goes well with a “Pior or Pure fruit juice!

My favorite dish! Super Cheap sotong and Kerapu fish (Grouper?) cooked with chili paste. Simply delicious and cost us only RM22 for both.

And also this very unhealthy yet superb-licious Gulai Daging

It’s common to see Malay girl wearing headscarves here. As a matter of fact, if you’re not wearing one it’s 80% sure that you’re not local. This is even reflected in the ads for example the Nescafe ad featuring Fara fauzana on tudung.

By 6:30pm, we left for the airport to catch our 9pm flight to Subang on Firefly Airline. Passed through this beautiful Masjid Kristal and Taman Tamadun Islam. A must-visit place on my next-trip.

We break our fast at the new beautiful airport

with a nice view of the runway…good for plane enthusiast like myself.

We were early and the airport was practically closed during breaking of fast except for the café. Who needs the café when we have our own superb-licious food from the ramadhan bazzar.

Food in Terengganu is just no-nonsense delicious and affordable. I know I’ve been saying this over and over again but yes, it is justified just to visit Terengganu on day trip to enjoy the food, meet the friendly people and do some shopping. Add few more days and you can explore the beautiful islands and beaches and enjoy snorkeling with the nature. Terengganu has something for everyone
Go visit!
