Go South: Singapore, JB and Malacca Adventure 2007

It’s end of year once again. A time for fun holidays, adventures and going places. It’s a bad time for a holiday actually as most of the popular places are jam packed with tourists. Nevertheless I managed to squeeze in a short trip to south visiting three different places in three days.

This trip is my second ‘backpacking’ trip to Singapore after the first unplanned-trip 2 years ago when I just completed my MBA. Funny, that this time despite the trip being well planned at its not pure backpacking, I’ve decided once again to hit the road with the same travel partner. He is one damn good travel companion and really fun to travel with. Not to say he now owns a damn good DSLR camera. Thanks bro.

This time rather than taking a straight bus to Singapore, we decided to give Firefly, Malaysia’s First Communtiy Airline a try. They recently begin services from Subang Airport to Johre Bahru so we managed to secure a pretty good deal for the ticket (RM19 excluding tax). I’ll make a special Brand Review post on Firefly within the next 1-2 days.

Since I have to attend weddings in Johore and Malacca, this trip was adjusted to become a three-destination trip. To reach Singapore (Sentosa Island to be specific) I had to:

fly on A Fokker 50 >

Shuttle Bus from JHB Airport to City Centre > Car Ride to Hotel in JB > Bus Ride to MRT in Singapore >

MRT Ride to Vivo City > Cable Car Ride to Sentosa Island > Luge ride to Siloso Beach…

After the long travel, finally I’m in Siloso Beach, Sentosa Island, Singapore. One of my favourite destinations of just laying back and relax. I just love Sentosa Island’s Luge Ride. It’s fun, fast and affordable. Basically this luge ride will take you down a hill slope from the entrance of the Sentosa Island to the beach. It’s a short stretch and hence once is never enough! We took three rides! It’s so fast that three snaps of digital camera will give u these three shots,

Siloso Beach…

“I’m a cam-whore pose…

What goes up must come down….after a fun Luge ride downhill, I have to take this boring sky ride lift back to the starting point

Besides Sentosa, I spent some time in Singapore;s Night Safari. Honestly, it’s n overpriced experience. Totally overrated and not worth my SGD$32 ++ for the ticket and tram ride. I can tell you that if the Malaysian National Zoo give me the opportunity, I can easily re-brand the Zoo and surrounding attractions like Kemensah Waterfall to beat the hell out of this boring Singapore Night Safari.

Me lost in Boring Land…

The only Animal that I find interesting is Felix the Cat on my t-shirt…

what a boring place. To be fair my experience is based solely on the tram ride and walking trails. I did not go to any of the shows as it was jam packed with people and I have to mention it took me 30 mins of lining up just to get on a tram. The animals are ok and I repect the effort to conserve wildlife’s here but Singapore went overboard a bit to brand this place like a ‘real’ safari in Africa.

Coming Soon: Posts on Kiasu and Fireflyz

Till then …happy new eyar everyone
