Citrawarna 2007: Colours of Malaysia

Where can you learn about a country’s culture in one place in one hour? It’s possible here in Malaysia through the Colours of Malaysia Parade.
For the first time I went to the Citrawarna parade after so many years seeing it on TV. I was always looking for a good reason to experience it first hand, and when I heard a group of students and friends visiting from Springfield, Missouri I took the opportunity.
Being an unauthorized tour guide was quite a challenge. I’m someone who rarely use public transport but yesterday I did quite OK bringing the students and their professor navigate all the way through KLIA Transit ERL and Nadi Putra Shuttle. It was quite cost efficient and comfortable to travel to Putrajaya this way.
The parade went well I guess. We reached Putrajaya and saw thousands of people were already there. We got a descent spot only to be pushed and pressed from all directions by disorderly local crowd. Yes I was humiliated. A world-class show with low-class crowd control. Another annoying this is how locals like to stare at tourists. I’ve heard about this before and boy I was right. It’s ok to look and smile but not ok to stare and whistle…idiots.
Here are some shots before we left 40 minutes short of the finale fireworks.
The great Kent Otto is back in Malaysia..haha..it’s a damn small world..
