Fly Fly Firefly…

Fly Fly Firefly…

No i’m not promoting MAS new subs airline FIREFLY . I’m talking bout VMY2007…yerp..a good year to visit good ol Malaysia…

Last weekend I went to check out one of the natural beauty just 30 minutes (My usual F1 speed) from KL City. Located in Kuala Selangor (Kg Kuantan to be exact), it is one of Selangor’s famous tourist attraction besides Shah Alam mosque, Sepang circuit etc. The Kuala Selangor Fireflies has been around since 1970′s when the locals discovered the beauty and words started to spread around since then. Rumours have it that the number of fireflies have reduced rapidly due to development (dam and pollution on the river) but there are still thousands if not hundreds of thousands to be seen each night.

I went there before dark as i know that driving and finding a place in a rural area with the only light coming from my car won’t be easy. From the main Klang – Kuala Selangor – Teluk Intan road (road #2) just turn right to intercept Jalan Rawang and drive a few more miles to reach Kg Kuantan Fireflies entrance.

Next to its huge car park and entrance is a mosque (ideal for Maghrib/Dusk prayers if u reach early) and a short walk you’ll see a nice simple platform/jetty. Buy the RM10 ticket at the counter and off you go riding on a sampan boat for a 30-minutes beautiful ride. Each boat carries 4 pax and I was lucky to be able to share a boat with 2 tourists from Amsterdam besides my GF. No crowd, no waiting and yeah life jackets provided and mandatory.

The ride was nice. I felt like a tourist guide cum translator for the 2 tourists. It was kind of nice and breezy. Just wear long sleeves and pants to avoid being annoyed by the mosquitos. 30 mins seem very short when ure having lots of fun. the beauty bout this palce is you cannot snap any photos and even if you do, nothing will appear without those expensive cameras. Yet some annoying tourists and locals kept using their flash cameras which not only you can see anything except trees but is killing those fireflies. Stupid!

After that me and my gal went on to Kuala selangor to have a nice cheap seafood dinner!!!

Great outing and yes it may not be as lighted as LA or NY or Vegas or Paris or London but it has its own ‘lights’ :)

Malaysia, Truly Asia My Home!
